Case Study

The Brief

Our client, a global tech company, was looking to congratulate and reward their top performers, and to motivate them for the new financial year ahead. The incentive brought together their 100 ‘best of the best’ from the Asia Pacific, Japan and Greater China regions, along with a guest, to Cairns to celebrate their success while enjoying the best of what Tropical North Queensland has to offer.

The Results

Guests were welcomed with a traditional Aussie BBQ style event on their arrival evening. Guests were Welcomed to Country during a traditional Indigenous ceremony, inviting them to connect with the land, its people and its traditions. Pavlova the koala delighted guests as they soaked in the balmy Cairns evening in The Backyard restaurant at the Shangri-La which was transformed into a tropical oasis.

The following day, the guests were treated to an exclusive excursion to Moore Reef where they experienced the crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral gardens, and abundant marine life of the Outer Great Barrier Reef. Various activities were on offer, including presentations on becoming Citizen Scientists to assist the great work of Citizens of the Reef. That evening, guests dined at Cairns’ finest restaurants in their Country groups.

On Saturday, a choice of the Regions best activities was on offer, including trips to Kuranda, Mossman Gorge, and Cape Tribulation. Some guests also opted for a Tasting the Tablelands excursion allowing them to experience the culinary delights of the Atherton Tablelands.

After a free evening and day at leisure to explore or relax, Sunday night was the Farewell Gala Dinner. Guests were treated to a unique North Queensland experience on a working Sugar Cane Farm where the machinery shed was set with long dining tables adorned with stunning Australian floral arrangements and candlelight. As the sun set over the cane fields, guests dined on a shared feast featuring the best of Australian flavours as the locals performed the Farewell Warrma (dance) and gift-giving, wishing them well on their travel home. After dinner, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the sky and kicked the night into party mode; guests danced under the stars to the tunes of a Six Piece Band, Kaweyova.

Throughout their stay, guests were surprised with beautiful Australian gifts dropped to their rooms each evening, including an original painting created by local artist Des Spencer and mounted on a handcrafted jarrah base engraved with the winners name, as well as a hand painted boomerang.
