It’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it!
Last month Dani visited Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, to take a first hand look at some of the latest incentive tourism ideas from our southernmost state.
Although Tasmania is one of the smallest states in Australia, it punches well above its weight, boasting the cleanest air in the world, spectacular scenery and rich history. With over one fifth of the island classified as world heritage areas, Tasmania is a popular incentive destination for both interstate and international visitors who come to enjoy its beautiful landscapes, delicious food and wine, and to explore the stunning wilderness.
If you’d like to plan an incentive trip to Tasmania, but you only have limited time, take a look at the raft of exciting experiences you can easily access in and around Hobart.
Dani’s put in the hard yards to create our ID Events Guide to the Ultimate Hobart Corporate and Incentive Experiences. Let’s take a closer look at what she’s discovered.
Luxury Seafood at the Barilla Bay Oyster Farm
Located just 30 mins drive from Hobart’s CBD and 5 mins from Hobart airport, Barilla Bay Oyster farm is home to fresh Tasmanian seafood and many other unique experiences.
At the Barilla Bay Oyster Farm, you can experience the daily Candy Abalone & Gillespie’s Ginger Beer Tour which is a delicious opportunity to learn more about abalone diving, the drying process and how to prepare and cook dried abalone, as well as sample the local oysters and ginger beer.
Barilla Bay Tasmania have developed new methods of cultivating oysters to further enhance the quality of their product and they also have created the world’s finest dried abalone & seafood, following the traditional Japanese drying method which uses natural airflow to achieve a tender, candied delicacy – known as the candy heart. This really is a must stop if you are looking to buy local, luxury seafood – especially abalone– in Tasmania.
After your tour you can head upstairs to the restaurant that showcases the best of Tasmanian seafood (they also cater for large groups and are available for corporate functions) or even book a 15 minute scenic helicopter flight or a half/full day experience!
Tasman Peninsula Helicopter Flight and High Speed Boat Tour
Got employees with a need for speed or keen photographers who are looking to capture some stunning photos of some of the planet’s highest sea cliffs?
Fly over some of the planet’s highest sea cliffs and peek into Tassie’s convict past with a helicopter trip along the sea cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula before visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Port Arthur Historic Site for an afternoon tour.
After taking a tour of historic Port Arthur you can join a high speed boat tour out into the Tasman Sea, where you can cruise beneath the same vertical sea cliffs at Cape Pillar that you’ve seen from the air. With your tour guide you’ll be able to get close up and explore waterfalls, rock formations, archways and deep-sea caves.
This is a great incentive reward for team members who are more adventurous and want to immerse themselves in the ruggard scenic beauty of Tasmania from both the air AND the sea.
Dinner in the Vineyards at Frogmore Creek
Reward your employees or treat your clients to drinks and dinner at Frogmore Creek, the largest winery in Southern Tasmania. Frogmore is just 20 minutes drive from Hoabart’s CBD, yet it feels miles away because the winery and restaurant are in a truly unique and rural setting, situated right in the middle of the vineyards.
The Barrel Room is the largest space, ideal for welcome cocktails, gala dinners and themed tasting station events. The Restaurant features floor-to-ceiling windows and doors that open out to the all-weather deck, creating a stunning frame of the vineyard and adjoining waterways.
The restaurant menu showcases the best of local produce and Tasmanian wines and you can enjoy wine tasting as well as dinner at Frogmore Creek – a stunning way to end the day.
Scenic View of Hobart from Kunanyi / Mt Wellington
The best view of Hobart is undoubtedly from the top of Mt Wellington/Kunanyi, where you can enjoy a sunrise like this taking in the panoramic views of Hobart and its surrounds if you get out of bed early enough!
Cascade Brewery Tour and Sampling
Set in the foothills of South Hobart beneath Mt. Wellington, Cascade Brewery is the oldest operating brewery in Australia. The Cascade Brewery Bar is also home to some of the oldest gardens in Tasmania, which all guests can explore and enjoy as part of their visit.
Enjoy a 75 minute behind the scenes tour of previously unseen parts of this magnificent heritage building — a great insight into both the history and the art of creating one of the nation’s oldest beer recipes from start to finish — before sampling the tasting paddle of four Cascade beers or ciders at the end of the tour.
Cascade Brewery is also ideal for corporate events, with three function spaces (heritage and modern) to suit groups of up to 110 people.
Sail the Derwent and Cross the Sydney to Hobart Finish Line
If you have a team member who is a keen sailor, this incentive reward will be right up the top of their bucket list. But you don’t have to have any sailing experience to enjoy this 3-hour sailing cruise on one of the largest and most beautiful natural harbours in the world, with spectacular views of Hobart and Mt Wellington
Thanks to Derwent River Charters, you can sail a fast and comfortable 62-foot luxury ocean racer/cruiser down the magnificent Derwent River before crossing the finish line of the world famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
Guests are encouraged to participate as much as they want to — taking the helm, working with the winches, or simply sitting back and enjoying the ride.
Feel like a Rockstar with a MONA ferry trip and dinner
The iconic and infamous Museum of Old and New Art, AKA the MONA is THE place to see and be seen in Hobart! So, if you’re going to visit the MONA , you may as well do it in style and book the “Rockstar Afternoon” to treat your clients and staff to an experience they’ll never forget!
The Rockstar Afternoon includes Posh Pit ferry tickets from Hobart, artwork entry to James Turrell’s Event Horizon (or Unseen Seen), dinner with matched wine at Faro Bar and Restaurant, underground cocktail at the Void Bar, sparkling from MONA’s Moorilla winery, and museum entry.
It’s an incentive reward unlike anything they will ever experience again!
